Tileyard North residents, Architecture 1B, have recently received multiple accolades at the Wakefield Civic Society Design Awards 2023. 

The firm was honoured with two commendations for the Best Shopfront and Best Refurbishment, and an award for their Northgate project. These are a testament to the firm’s excellence in design and their ability to create designs that are both innovative and respectful of the local environment.

The CIAT accredited Conservationists, Architecture 1B, produced a sympathetic restoration of a Building Of Local Interest – First Choice Recruitment on Silver Street – within the Upper Westgate Conservation Area, including a new timber shopfront and traditional hot-lime re-rendering as part of the Westgate Heritage Action Zone. A Wakefield Civic Society commendation was received in both Best New Shopfront and Best Renovation categories.

For their 115a Northgate project, Architecture 1B developed a highly conceptual, faceted new dwelling as a key focal gateway building on the Northern Entrance into Wakefield City Centre. The site is in the St Johns Conservation area and was allocated as valuable green space within it. The form and shape were dictated by the existing trees and adjoining properties whilst the fenestration was taken from the houses along Wentworth Terrace. The scheme was the Civic Society prize winner of the Best New Development in Wakefield.

Architecture 1B’s success at the Wakefield Civic Society Design Awards 2023 is a testament to their talent and dedication. The firm’s designs and commitment to enhancing the built environment in Wakefield have earned them a reputation as one of the region’s leading architectural firms.
