International Women’s Day: Emma Stakes

go back

Meet Emma, whose multifaceted career in the music industry, spanning from her childhood dreams to her professional endeavours in London as an A&R manager, label and publisher manager, and artist developer, reflects the evolving challenges and opportunities within the ever-changing landscape of music consumption.

Can you share with us your background, and how you were introduced to the music industries?

As an A&R manager, label and publisher manager, and artist developer, I’ve had a dynamic journey in the music industry. From my roots as a child aspiring singer in Yorkshire to pursuing it professionally in London, the challenges have evolved with the changing landscape of music consumption.

Have you encountered any specific challenges or barriers in your career?

Navigating through physical formats to social media and DSPs while ensuring talent gets discovered and avoiding opportunists has been a significant part of my journey, particularly as a woman.

Reflecting on your experiences, what advice would you give to your 16-year-old self regarding being a woman in the industry? What are some things to expect, both the difficulties and the excitements?

My career has transitioned from creative to business, but it’s been filled with incredible experiences, from working on TV shows to global stages and studios worldwide. If I could advise my 16-year-old self, it would be to not stress about others’ opinions, stay true to myself, and embrace life without regrets.
